Dear friends:
I upgraded my Office 2004 to 2008 and I lost all my Entourage data and
settings on my Mac Book Pro!!! All my contacts, email accounts
settings, appointments, tasks are lost!!!
Fortunately, in my Office Building I have an USB drive with a backup
image of my hard disk, and also with all the backups of Time Machine.
Please, could you help me and tell me which files should I recover
from my backups and where to copy them (or to install them) in my hard
disk again, in order to recover all the Entourage information during
next Monday?
Thanks

And I'm guessing that this folder is right there where it should be and
doesn't need to be recovered from a backup. I haven't touched Office
2008 yet, but if Entourage 2008 works like all the preceeding
Entourages, there's an Import command under the File menu, which should
allow the 2004 data to be migrated into 2008.

I've read that the 2008 installer asks if you want to *remove* 2004
during installation of 2008. That may include removing the data - not
sure.

Even for a MS product, I cannot imagine that it would remove someone's
previous Entourage data, and certainly not without specific warnings.

I'll let you know when I finally receive my copy (I'm in no real hurry
though, I have to admit).

Unfortunately, it disappeared during the Office 2008 install. The
installer asks you if you want to uninstall Office 2004, and I
answered "yes". The migration assistant ask you to import your Office
2004 profile during the first time you launch "Entourage", which
occurs later than its installation, of course, so your data was gone
before.
The problem is that when the Office 2008 installer asks you to
uninstall Office 2004, one understands that it will uninstall and
delete the *program* only, but not your private data. A big bug and
mistake from Microsoft, indeed.

Well, I found the problem.
My version of Office 2004 was a Spanish version and the version of my
new Office 2008 was an USA standard version. So the names of the 2004
data folders were written in Spanish and they were very different to
what the US version of Entourage 2008 expected to find. Renaming them
to the English standard names did work OK.

I "hear" you.
I upgraded to Office:mac 2008 a couple weeks ago, along with moving to
Leopard. The upgrade to Leopard was less-than-seamless (but OK now) and the
new Entourage has some "warts", the fix for which I am patiently waiting.
Still, it is a significant improvement over version X (I skipped 2004).

I currently use Entourage 2004 with the Handheld Sync Conduit to
synchronize categorized events, addresses, notes, and tasks to my Palm
Treo 700p. I am not looking forward to the headache of upgrading to
2008 and trying to work around Microsoft's utter mistake of not
including a Handheld Sync Conduit in 2008, and forcing customers to use
the totally broken Sync Services instead.

Why would you upgrade to 2008 if you know it won't meet your needs? >> Stay informed about: I upgraded my Office 2004 to 2008 and I lost all my Entour.. |

Because with the offer, I basically got the upgrade to Office 2008
Special Media Edition for the cost of shipping. ; ) I couldn't pass it
up.
