Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>portables (more info?)

Hello,

after I "fixed" not being able to write DVDs by bying Toast 8 everything
with Leopard and my PB G4, 1,67 Ghz, seemed fine. Then last night's
update appeared and I installed it. Now I can get into the PB with the
usual password but anything that needs authentification does not
recognize me. Like I can't restore anything with Timemachine nor can I
change any settings except the password itself which does not change the
problem.
I tried a number of things to no avail.
I haven't tried reinstalling Leopard as I doubt it'll make a difference (?).
I don't suppose I can go back to before the update? And not without
authentification anyway...
I would be very grateful if anyone had an idea how to fix this. You can
imagine how that might be in the way of all kinds of things.
Thanks,
Yo

me again Smile
Problem solved!!!
I rang Apple Support and got an absolutely competent person who helped
me to solve the problem (boot from Leo-DVD, acticate root etc.).
So the sun is shining again for my PB Smile
He also pointed out that you can find all about these things in the
apple database. I hadn't looked... being relatively new to mac I didn't
know about it. So if you have problems, maybe try than Smile
I wish to emphasize: my experience with Apple Support has been more than
satisfying. It was marvellous. One great PLUS for Apple Smile

So what was the actual problem?

And what does "15th of Dec" refer to in your subject line? Is your
calendar running a month fast?

When you bought Leopard, it came with a 90 day free tech support period,
so I suggest you try calling Apple to ask for help.
