Next: ITunes doesn't list all of my music files

Post subject: How do I remove duplicate entries in ITunes?

I have a large collection of classical music by a certain performer
I'll call "ArtistX". Abot 30 CD's in all here.
The folder structure is:
E:\MyMusic\ArtistX\CD1\
E:\MyMusic\ArtistX\CD2\
E:\MyMusic\ArtistX\CD3\.... etc.
I wanted to add 4 CD's of his work but instead I made the error when
"Adding Folder To Library", of choosing "E:\MyMusic\ArtistX\".
SO ITunes added the 4 CD's, plus all of the others that were already
loaded in ITunes.
Now I have a *boatload* of duplicate track entries in ITunes.
How can I tell ITunes to remove the duplicates without having to
uninstall and re-install ITunes again?

first of all, there's no need to uninstall and reinstall. the simplest
thing is just delete everything from your itunes library (not the hard
drive) and reimport it all. you'll lose ratings and playlists, but
that may not be a big deal to you.
another possibility is show view options and pick the date that a song
is added to the library. then you can sort by that field and delete
the ones you just added, and then start over, adding only what you
planned to add.
als, this is a mac group, and on a mac there are applescripts that can
easily find duplicate songs and delete them.  |

That's fine, I can respect that, but then if you have energy to gripe
about the **problem** of a windows guy being in a Mac area, can you
expound just as much energy to offer a **solution** as to what forum

I haven't seen newsgroups for this, but there are quite a few
web-based forums.

Both versions do that. I created a bunch of duplicates. My
duplicates were of a different type, so I was able to create a smart
playlist with them - but then I wanted to delete that playlist.
What I didn't figure out was to select them all with my right button.
When I did that, "Delete" was an option.
Both iTunes for Mac and for Windows give options with the right button
that aren't otherwise available. Of course, the default
configuration for OS-X is to treat both left and right buttons of the

No, that command is in the iTunes menu bar under Edit > Delete.
