Post subject: notebook presenter mouse 8000
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>otherproducts (more info?)

I'm using a Microsoft Presenter 8000 Bluetooth mouse on my Macbook Pro
running Leopard (10.5.1). I use the Microsoft Intellimouse software so
I can map my side buttons and because I can't stand OS X's mouse
acceleration with an actual mouse. I have the mouse tracking speed
maxed out but the tracking or pointer speed is too slow for me. I
upgraded the intellipoint software to mac version 6.2.2 (released on
december 17th, 2007). The device is detected and "connected" but not
shown as paired at the bluetooth hardware preferences menu. When the
dongle is inserted in a USB port, it doesn't make a difference.

I also noted something strange: when the mouse is all set up and
"working", I go straight to the keyboard and mouse hardware
preferences menu and modify the tracking speed to about the fourth of
fifth line and it works just fine! However when I close this menu and
go back to work with any other application, the tracking speed returns
to its sluggish movement.

I tried connecting a friend's Microsoft bluetooth notebook mouse 5000,
and the bluetooth preferences menu shows it as both paired and
connected - and the tracking speed works fine for me. But I bought
this expensive 8000 presenter model only to find myself disappointed.

I wonder if this is related to the "connected but not paired" issue?
How can this be resolved?

Since this is a peer-to-peer newsgroup, I suspect that only those that
have a Presenter 8000 mouse would know, and the traffic here is pretty
low for there to be a high-percentage chance of getting an answer here
today. You might search more widely.

FWIW - I had to go back to find the original post to figure out what you
were writing about. It's generally best to keep the same subject line or
to include some or all of the previous post (as quoted text) to give
context (at least your post kept the reference to the previous one in
the header).

For anyone searching on this issue... or for you Bart if you are a
programmer... I did some testing and the 8000 mouse is sending out
WM_APPCOMMAND window messages. This is what "multimedia keyboards" use for
those extra keys, I think. So it's *not* a nefarious plot against Open Office
users... and it is possible to make an application work with the mouse or for
a event hook to be written. I'm stopping here for the moment. I really need
it for Open Office so I'll probably pick this back up. AWESOME mouse if you
give a lot of presentations. MCT here.

Next I'll probably search for an application that lets you map the keys on a
multimedia keyboard for the active window (currently running application) to
regular keystrokes (e.g. converts WM_APPCOMMAND -> WM_KEY) or maybe write one
myself. Open Office (and other applications) really should support these
messages so maybe I'll look at that code. One day. Smile

Not sure that helps you but it might help somebody.
