I'm trying to install Oracle on my MAC OS 10.5.1. There's a fairly
complete
description of the process on
http://www.orablogs.com/sergio/archives/000781.html
However it refers to two unix commands:
nireport
nicl
which I do not have. They seem to have been,
based on the above site, available on MAC OS 10.3.7,
but somehow not on 10.5.1.
The oddest thing is there are man pages for both of
them.
I did a 'find' on every conceivable /<dir> and nothing
turned up.
Is Apple now making them only available on the server?
As I said, they're on 10.3.7.
I have gcc 4.0.1, BTW, and the 10.5.1 xcode.
Anybody know where I can get a version of
nireport and nicl? I searched the Apple site and
nothing came up. >> Stay informed about: nireport and nicl |

Thanks.
Do you have a reference for information about these other
directory facilities? I think by reading the aforementioned blog
I could figure out what I'm supposed to do directory-wise,
and translate it into these new directory facilities. >> Stay informed about: nireport and nicl |

Those are utilities to manage the NetInfo database. NetInfo has been
abandoned in Leopard in favor of other directory facilities.

Thanks for all your replies!
I've got the man pages for nireport and nicl and dscl, and I'm going
to try to
translate the nicl and nireport commands in the installation script
I'm trying
to run into dscl commands.
It appears from another thread on the apple - support - discussions -
mac os x technologies - unix
forum that dscl replaces both nicl and nireport.
Thanks again.

Not specifically. If you need to add users and/or groups, you can do it
through the "Accounts" system preference.
