What's everybody's favorite keyboard these days? I've been looking at
a Matias model that includes a handy USB 2.0 port. It looks nice, but
requires two USB input ports, not a deal breaker but inconvenient.
I've got an old Kensington "multimedia" keyboard right now, but it was
absolutely filthy so I washed it, and I'm not sure it survived. Lucky
for me I still had a couple of old Apple models in the closet!
Cheers!

My favorites are the new aluminum models from Apple. I have both the USB and
Bluetooth versions, the former when I'm using my MacBook at home and the
latter when I'm using my MacBook away from home. I find they have excellent
tactile feedback and they are quiet.

The standard aluminum keyboard that came with my 6-month old iMac is by far
the best keyboard I've ever owned. It's well-designed, well-constructed, and
an absolute pleasure to use. I particularly like its slim profile, and the
short key-travel distance, well-matched to the low effort required to press
the keys. The net result is a keyboard that is sturdy, feels like a single
integrated unit, and comfortable to use for extended periods of time.

I *love* Apple's latest aluminum keyboard. The tactile response is great.

Hmm, it's tempting. I'm looking for a wireless keyboard. I'd like it
better if it had a number pad and an "enter" key (I've gotten used to
using my thumb on the enter key whilst moving the mouse about).

Mine has a number pad and an Enter key. You must be looking at the
short version.

Many thanks to all who replied. Between what I have read here and the
recommendations I solicited from the membership of my users' group, the
nearly unanimous consensus is that the aluminum keyboard from Apple is
the current favorite. It has its detractors but the comments I've read
convinced me to order one today. And since I'm using an aluminum-toned
Kensington mouse, I'll have *matching* input devices for the first time
in years! Tres chic!
Cheers!

He's looking at the wireless version which is is missing the control area and
number pad found on the wired version.

I'd certainly be interested in what the detractors' complaints are. I can be
(and often am) a pain-in-the-ass, detail kind of guy, yet try as I may, I
can't find anything to criticize. (The only thing on my "wish list" for
_all_ computer products is the total elimination of moving parts. But that's
driven by general reliability concerns: mechanical components tend to be
less reliable than solid-state components.)

I'm willing to bet most of them are complaining that the shorter
wireless version doesn't have a key pad and so on.

No, most of the detractors complain about ergonomics and key "feel"
(and some even miss the click-clack of standard keyboards).
Cheers!

That's funny. The key feel is what I love *most* about this keyboard.
It's got what I consider to be fantastic tactile feedback.
As far as ergonomics go, how could they improve on it? Split the thing
in two or angle each side?? No thanks - I've never liked those designs.
