I bought some educational software for my kids. Once the software is
installed in /Applications, it still needs the CD to be inserted in the
optical drive to work.

So I figured I could get around that by making a disk image of the CD
and then mounting that instead of having to physically insert the CD.

Disk Utility seems to have imaged the CD correctly (select CD volume,
New Image, CD/DVD master, which creates a .cdr image). But when I try
to mount the image, it displays this error message:

"The disk image you are opening may be damaged and could damage your
system. Are you sure you want to open this disk image? [Open] [Don't
Open]"

I have tried building a new image over and over and still the same
thing. Any ideas?

I have come to loath that freaking message. If anyone has suggestions
as to how to prevent it, I'm definitely all ears.

You really think that's to blame?
