Post subject: how to exchange presentations with movies between mac/win-users?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>powerpoint (more info?)

hi,

my colleagues use macs with 10.4.7 and powerpoint 10.3.9; lastly we
need to exchange our powerpoint files with windows-users. everything
works except powerpoints with videos - the customer always see a
message like "to see the movie you need the quicktime decompressor
cinepak".

I read somewhere, that powerpoint under windows can only play
quicktime movies with a very old codec like cinepak - but we still get
this error message.

I also tried mpeg1 - didn't help either.

a solution would be to open the powerpoint on a pc, delete every movie
and then reimport them, but that's no satisfying solution.

so I would like to know, which video-format I should use?

thx!

regards,

ferdinand

I'm trying a new usenet client for Mac, Nemo OS X.
You can download it at http://www.malcom-mac.com/nemo

You would think by now the Windows PowerPoint team would have fixed those
bugs, but so far no luck.

Use .avi and the problem should go away. QuickTime Pro can export as .avi.

It'd actually be up to the Windows Media Player team.
The PPT team is WELL aware of the problems but is kinda stuck using WMP.

This makes sense in a way ... MS has invented its wheel and doesn't want to pay
to invent another one.

But this particular wheel has flat spots that give folks like us a very bumpy
ride. When it doesn't fall off the axle altogether. Wink

Maybe all they need is a codec. Perhaps a 3rd party could make one for them.

You will need something that reads WMV files. You can download Windows
Media Player for Mac, or you can get the Flip4Mac plug-in to allow
QuickTime to play WMV files:
