I set a master password on my imac using OS 10.3.9. I know the password
and am able to get into my system. It's just that I no longer NEED
that feature and would like to undo this action.

I can change the
password to a new one, but so far cannot disable it altogether. I even
tried leaving blanks for the "new Password" but then it insists I set a
new one.

Any way to be rid of this? Thanks for any info.

I don't understand. If you change the password, does the new and old password
both work? Do you mean that you want to disable the requirement of entering a
password at all?

No, only the new one would work in that case.

Sorry, I see from the header that you are using 10.3.9.

If you are talking about the Filevault master password, I did find a possible
fix.

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6446187

Keep in mind that this is not a money back guaranteed fix, and that I am not
saying that I know this will work, or that I know it will not completely
erase your hard drive. I doubt that this will happen, but I just want to let
you know that you should always back up your data, and be prepared for the
necessity of re-installing everything, especially when you do work on the
guts of the OS.

Good luck. Let me know if it is not the Filevault master password that you
are trying to reset.
