Yeah, right. As quiet as microsoft.public.windowsxp groups, you mean?

No one in their right mind uses the microsoft.public groups. You can't fix a
problem with the bad advice dished out in those groups. The real experts are
in the alt. ...XP groups: those are very quiet nowadays.

Think of how many Windoze users are careless and get malware.

Try switching to the Mac or Linux, then you will not get infected.
Malware infection is par for the course of using Windoze.

Whoops. My bad. I'm posting from one advocacy group and was thinking
about the windows version. Guess it only shows how little attention I
pay to what "zara" writes.. Wink

Okay, I thought about it. Now, how was that supposed to change what I said

Nope- it's probably very accurate under the stated conditions:

"...a machine running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 to an unsecured
wireless network. The machine was running no antivirus, firewall, or anti-
spyware software and contained a sample target file of passwords to be
stolen."

Very frightening! In a related story, money was stolen from a series of
automobiles that were parked unguarded in abandoned lots with the windows
down, doors unlocked, and the victims' wallets left visibly on the
dashboard...

Stacking the deck a WEE bit, aren't we? Virtually every router has a
firewall on by default, and any name-brand Wintel PC sold in the last few
years includes AV software- at least a trial version. While someone
patching a home-built PC might not have AV software included, he or she
typically isn't newbie enough to run a completely unprotected system
either.

You Windows apologists just don't get it. There's no reason to not be
secure out of the box. Zero. Inexcusable.

True. That's why I said 'OS-like'.

Like I said... the only reason she wasn't fired was that she was really good

The new Zunes are better (they could hardly be worse...) and I've seen two of
them out in the real world. Of course, one of the two was on it's way back to
the store from whence it had come... Gotta love it.
