Hi and help! I'm new to Mac and know my way around PC very well, however..I would like to know how to change preferences for the various programs since the usual "preferences" within the programs don't let me do what I want to do. In setting a "default" document type in Mac Word I somehow changed a setting that now causes Word to open at startup which I don't want. I'm wasting a lot of time exploring around in this MacBook and not finding the correct place to go.
What would be synonymous with "Control Panel", "msconfig",Windows Explorer, regedit, my computer, or right clicking on a program to get properties, etc?

My 2cents...Mac is not "intuitive" IMHO.. Surprised)

Intuition is often skewed by what we've gotten used to...<g>

Choose Apple/System Preferences/Accounts. In the Login Items tab, delete
the entry for Word or a Word document (it won't touch the app/doc).

Thanks for your reply! I did eventually figure it out...I think I'm getting the hang of this! Surprised)

My next quest is to figure out how to get documents (Word or Pages) to open so that they fill the whole screen (or close to it) as a default instead of dragging the window & adjusting each time. We find them hard to see compared to "what we're used to". Thanx
