| I an running a Power Mac G5 and recently installed Mac OS 10.5
(Leopard). I have Microsoft Office Mac 10.0 which I have used for a
long time with no problem. Now, however, when I launch either,
especially Powerpoint, the file opens for about 5 seconds then
crashes. Anybody have a similar experience and have a solution.
Microsoft tells me I need to upgrade to Windows 2004.

In view of the fact that Office X was designed based on what the original
introduction of OS X was *intended* to be and is now EOL (no longer
supported & no further updates) by MS, it wouldn't be surprising to find
that Leopard has left it behind. I honestly do not know as I've not seen any
official statement one way or another. However, I can assure you that if it
has any chance of running on Leopard it will have to be updated - you
specify 10.0 in your post, current update is 10.1.9 - in fact, it's
surprising that you haven't had previous problems with Office X (10.0)
depending on what version of OS X you were running it on.
The advice to upgrade to 2004 is pretty sound though, since it is a far more
well developed product with a number of enhancements.

Hi, do you have Time Machine turned on with an external drive?
If so try to unhook the external and try the programs.

I have Powerpoint 10.1.9 and I have the same problem. When I start
Powerpoint it starts oad a blank/new presentation but it crashes before it's
finished. The same thing happens if I try to open a previously made
presentation.
Any idea what could be wrong?
I had no problems with PP in Tiger and I have no problems with Excel and
Word which both are version 10.1.8
P.S. I have not activated Time Machine.

Hi,
There aren't any known problems that would cause what you are seeing.
Please undertake general troubleshooting steps. One of them may cure the
ill. If it does, please report back which one did the trick for you.

Depending on how you upgraded to Leopard you may have to run the Remove
Office utility, reinstall& update the suite. Unfortunately you don't provide
any substantive details about your situation.
Have not yet seen anything about a trial version of Office 2008 - but it
would be unusual for there to not be one - perhaps in a couple of weeks.
Keep an eye on the Mactopia web site for an announcement:

Using the linked fix to get rid of the pdf maker allowed me to use Powerpoint v.X with OS X 10.5. I was thinking of upgrading to Office2008, but discovered it is not compatible with Endnote, so this fix solved a real dilemma! >> Stay informed about: Powerpoint and Word crash |

am on Leopard 10.5.1 (not an intel-based laptop) with newly installed Office 2008. For my larger PPT files (seems like over 4MB), when I try to print Notes view in Black and White, PowerPoint crashes.
If removing the pdf maker is the solution, I'm in trouble. I have to create PDF's to upload to my print service to print my manuals.
Any suggestions? >> Stay informed about: Powerpoint and Word crash |

I haven't used Mac Acrobat in quite a while, but IIRC, PDFMaker is an add-in that Acrobat
installs in PPT and the other Office apps.
Does it also include Distiller and an Adobe PDF driver? You should be able to print to
the PDF driver or to a PostScript file and then open that in Distiller to make PDF.
And that's assuming the Mac OS' own PDF making facilities aren't acceptable to the print
shop. They may be ... you may want to check with them about it.

I am having exactly the same problem - thank goodness for Time Machine which means I can go back and get the earlier version! I am trying to work on a word document which I am transfering into a PP but both applications keep on crashing!
I also got the problem after I upgraded to Leopard. I have a G5 imac PowerPC. >> Stay informed about: Powerpoint and Word crash |
