FAT16 and FAT32 devices should mount automatically. Are you attempting to
mount the drive when attached to an unpowered hub, such as the keyboard? I've
found that OS X will sometimes object, while OS 9 will not... but the drive
might not like being hooked to something that doesn't hand it enough power.
