Hi all,
anyone know of a tool I can use for comparing source-code files (or any
text files, for that matter, on a line-by line basis) that runs on the
Mac-Intel platform?
On my PPC Mac, I use CodeWarrior, which has an excellent file-or-folder
compare tool. But now I'm trying to keep the code on my two platforms
current with each other, and find I have no way to compare the files on my
iMac. Ack!
I suppose I could take my files to the PPC-Mac, make the changes there,
then take them back to the iMac and replace them en masse, but I'd much
rather have a simple file compare-and-update tool on the iMac itself.
Anyone know of such a tool? (A google search didn't help much, because
most hits had to do with comparing the features of platfoms, not comparing
files.)
Thanks,

There's a file comparison tool provided as part of Apple's developer
tools package. If you've installed them it's
/Developer/Applications/Utilities/FileMerge.app.

I have no idea what it means, but it's such a cool "word" (by which I mean
pronouncable sequence of letters) regardless. >> Stay informed about: Tool for comparing files on Mac-Intel? |

I would suggest BBEdit ($) or TextWrangler (free) from <www.barebones.com>.

Note that FileMerge is an incredibly poor tool if you have to do any
serious amount of file comparison/merging. TextWrangler is free and a
couple of orders of magnitude better (IMNVHO).

If you want to be a unixer, then vimdiff rocks! But then again
you have to like Vim as an editor.

It appears the obligatory mention of Emacs' Ediff merge function falls
to me. If you want to try Emacs under Mac OS X, I'd recommend
Aquamacs. >> Stay informed about: Tool for comparing files on Mac-Intel? |

My favourite 3 are: CodeWarrior, FileMerge, and TextWrangler. They all
have pros and cons. Give em a try. >> Stay informed about: Tool for comparing files on Mac-Intel? |

Which reminds me: svnX can be configured to use CodeWarrior, FileMerge,
or TextWrangler as the diffing application. >> Stay informed about: Tool for comparing files on Mac-Intel? |
