Hi everyone,

As I understand it, you have to press the Apple key to open up tabbed
pages in Safari. Is there anyway to click on links and have a tabbed
page open up without having to press the Apple key.

TIA,

Danny

Right-click on the link to open a menu of options.

Or control-click, for those using one-button mice. Or click
and hold until the context menu pops up. Takes a second or two.

Are you looking for the effect of Command Shift click?

Being ultimately lazy (hehehe), I would like to be able to left-click on
a link and be taken straight to a tabbed page. I don't really want the
extra step of the right-click option.

Clicking the middle mouse button (scroll wheel or ball, if your mouse
has one) on a link opens the link in a new tab.

If you've configured it that way. On my system that button invokes
"Spaces", to allow a quick switch.

If you hold command down while left clicking, this is not as much
trouble as right clicking. Left and click at same time gets it.
Right click gets you to another decision to make.

Anyway, if your wish were granted, you would store up extra steps
and trouble anyway. It would be like having brain that could not
forget anything. Forgetting and dispensing is an important
management asset. If you were to browse a site and every link was
to open auto in a new tab, then think of the strain on your
browser, memory and you. Instead of using the hopefully well
thought out navigation system of a website, you are staring at
lots and lots of teensy not greatly titled tabs which you then
have to manage.

Yes, the third mouse button has to be configured to mean "third mouse
button" and not "invoke Spaces" or something else. As far as I know this
is the default with non-Apple mice. It works the same way in Firefox,
by the way.
