I live in rural Maine with no cable or DSL. Satellite providers are Wild Blue
and Hughes Net.

Are either of these more Mac friendly?

I really want to set up a wireless network in my house with the satellite
internet connection. Any possible pitfalls here?

Thank you, Mike Bushey

Does it really matter? A network connection is a network connection.

Not that I can think of. All you need is a Ethernet port an a wireless
router to plug into it.

It matters only in dealing with the bozo they send to set it up, if
that's how it works, and in dealing with their tech support. I would
just go in assuming that they don't know anything about anything.

Yep. most cable and DSL companies are the same way. It's not often the
installer they send out actually knows something about Macs. As long as
there's an Ethernet connection, it shouldn't matter much, though.

The problem is that (at least in Canada) you're not allowed to do your
own install with an uplinked satellite connection. Govt regulations say
it has to be er, professionally installed (or that used to be the case
when I looked into it). Don't know if that's true in the US, though. At
any rate, you'd be a the mercy of the er, professional installer.

Although, I guess don't know if the OP is going to use a sat uplink;
some of these systems use a phone connection for uploads.

I have a friend who has Wild Blue. I've had my iBook hooked up to it,
both directly and through a WiFi router. It worked fine. I don't know
about their support.

The only serious problem my friend has had is snow on the dish blocking
the signal.
