Rise of Nations is a great RTS game. It works well on my 1 Ghz 12"
Powerbook, and with a patch it also works on my old DP/450. Better than
on my PC, actually. You need at least 512M though.

It's very replayable (many tweakable parameters, countries, units,
techs, and timelines) and a lot of fun. I think that the city-building
aspect is overblown. It's not so much like Civ as they claim. Civ 2 is
still a better strategy game with many more paths of tech investment
(Civ 3 sucks, IMHO). But there is a lot of stuff going on, many
different civilizations to play which are different and yet fairly
balanced. The AI is not stellar, but I don't know any RTS game where it
is.

The campaign modes are not as good as the quick battle modes, although
they are interesting.

I could go on, but my advice is just to get it.

Rise of Nations? - Anyone know what the release date for this game will be? The latest MacAddict reports sometime in Q3. Any comments on this game from those who have, perhaps, played the Windows version of it...?

Rise of Nations on 450 Mz G4 - Will Rise of Nations play OK on a 450 Mz G4 with OS X? I have 640 MB of memory, which I'm hoping will help make up for the fact that the System Requirements say 550 Mz at least. Anybody tried it with less than 550 Mz speed? --Duffy Tweedy

HOI- gun calibres? - Does it make any difference if what size gun you put on your tanks? (IE, is a 50mm gun any improvement over a 30mm one?) The development cost and time is the same, so I was just wondering...
