Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>system (more info?)

Since letting Software Update install Quicktime 7.4.1 and a couple of
other updates (to Apple Pro applications) this evening, my Intel Core
Duo iMac/Os 10.5.1 has been misbehaving. Rebooted after the install and
ran Repair Permissions then tried to open QuickTime Player which hung
for about 5 minutes before opening and then suddenly quitting. At the
same time I notice that my CPU is beng spiked every few seconds by a
process called ReportCrash and there seems to be nothing I can do to
stop it.

Console app is updating in time with each spike, repeating over and
over, as below:

If anyone can explain what has happened to my previously smooth-running
Os, and how to fix it, I would be most grateful.

I have stopped the looping ReportCrash spikes by disabling the
QuickContact menu in Now Contact v 5.3.2b -- which had behaved
impeccably for a couple of weeks until tonight's Quicktime update.
