I have the Windoze retail CD of Quake 3 Arena.
Want to run it on a Power Mac G5 with Mac OS X Panther.

Downloaded Quake3-132-AltivecTest2.pkg.sit.
The Mac executable asks where the retail version is
(I copied the whole CD to hard disk), and the screen turns white,
then Quake 3 hangs. Running the Quake console, it complains
about "unexpected GUI 3" whatever.

Well I have more freaky setup and it works. Are you sure you copied
that 450mb+ data file from baseq3 to the mac baseq3 folder?

I was a pure newbie on OS X, in fact I installed the point release and
the data file from the linux quake3 cd.

And you are sure you aren't overwriting anything yes?

Thank you!

I copied pak0.pk3 to /Applications/Quake3/baseq3/,
then told it the Retail Version was at /Applications/Quake3,
and then it ran successfully.

Apparently copying the CD to a separate directory
and telling that was the Retail Version was wrong.

Delete it all and start over.

Install the Quake 3 Altivec Update first.

Then drag the pak1.pak file from the baseq3 folder on the CD to the
baseq3 folder created by the Quake3 patch install.

Done. Smile
