| Hello,

I just upgraded to Office 2008 from Office 2004 and have a question. Whenever I would save a powerpoint presentation in Office 2004, I would always see a preview picture of the first slide to represent the document instead of the default orange powerpoint preview picture. Now in Office 2008, I only get the orange powerpoint preview picture and not a preview of the presentation.
I went to the preferences and to the "save" tab and there is a check mark next to, "save preview picture" but I am still not able to see a preview picture of my presentation.
Is anyone else having this problem? This is only happening in Powerpoint too. I am able to see a preview picture of Word and Excel fine.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Where are you seeing the PPt logo preview rather than the 1st slide preview?
If in a Finder window, I believe that's normal - IIRC, OS X doesn't display
PPt Previews in Finder windows. The Previews only show up in the PPt File>
Open dialog.
Are they not displaying preview there?

Thanks for replying to my thread.
I am using a Finder window to see my powerpoint presentations, as I always have. When I would use Office 2004 for Mac, I was given a preview of the 1st slide in the finder window instead of the default.
If I look at some of my older powerpoints, ones I saved with Office 2004, I get the 1st slide preview. However, if I open the older powerpoints and resave them in Office 2008, I lose the 1st slide preview and get stuck with the default powerpoint preview. >> Stay informed about: Preview picture not showing up on saved powerpoints |

I'm not sure what to tell you - I really don't mean to be argumentative, but
this is what I'm experiencing in OS X 10.4.11 with both Office 2004 & 2008:
First, the version of Office makes no difference - Finder windows are a
function of the OS & behave the same regardless of what programs are
installed. My understanding - pretty much confirmed by Mac Help - is that
the preview pane of an actual Finder window will display a preview of an
*image* file [JPEG, TIFF, etc.] if it can (assuming the image has a
preview). For other file types the preview displayed is the program's icon.
I don't remember it ever being different, although there are some
"exceptions" - text files being one. Bottom line, though, is that if you are
accurately remembering differently the change must have been imposed by the
OS somewhere along the line without being noticed at the time - no version
of Office can do anything to modify Finder's behavior.
In any given program, however, the window produced by File> Open enables the
preview to display for file types recognized by that program (again,
assuming the file was saved with a preview). In fact, Word 2004's Open
dialog window will display PPt 2004 previews. So what I'm finding is:
1- In PPt 2008 File> Open I see previews of any PPt file saved with a
preview regardless of which version created it,
2- Older PPt files saved in 2008 PPTX format are no exception, but
3- Once saved as PPTX, PPt 2004 cannot display the preview - which is to be
expected because of the difference in file type, and
4- Under no circumstances does Finder, itself, display a PPt preview.

Well I guess I am still confused. Your explanation does make sense, and I can follow your examples on my computer. However, I am still getting some different results as well. I wish I could email you some pictures so I can explain better what I am seeing.
I don't know if its a problem with Leopard OSX 10.5 or Office 2008. Everything was showing up as normal until I installed Office 2008 >> Stay informed about: Preview picture not showing up on saved powerpoints |

One thought: In previous versions, if you look at File, Properties, Summary
tab, there's a checkbox that sets whether PPT should save a preview image in
the file.
Check to see if that's still checked, assuming the feature's still there in
2008.

When I switch to coverflow in finder, I still only see the default powerpoint presentation icon. I am not sure it has anything to do with coverflow because I was able to get a preview when using Office 2004 and Leopard.
I think this problem is only with powerpoint presentations as well because in the exact same finder folder I have a Word document and the Word document shows me a preview of the document while the powerpoint presentations are the default orange icon. >> Stay informed about: Preview picture not showing up on saved powerpoints |

I think this is due to the same "quick-look" issue discussed in the

Yeah, it's broken. We're waiting on a fix from Microsoft or Apple.
Sorry: It's a bug.
