Post subject: PowerPoint 2008 Presenter View exit freeze up!
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>mac>office>powerpoint (more info?)

Hello, I've just installed Office 2008. I opened Powerpoint and wanted to see the new Presenter Tools View. No matter what file I have opened, old or brand new the program freezes up every time I use the "end" button or the escape key to get out. I'm talking every single time. The slide on the presenter's monitor turns blank and things just freeze up. I can't quit out at all nor does force quite work. The only thing I can do is hold the power key down until the Mac shuts down and then reboot.

Any help would be appreciated.
I'm currently studying the book Beyond Bullet Points and this feature is a MUST have!
Radeon 9000 AGP Pro running 22" Cinema Display (audience view)
Radeon 9200 PCI running 17" Studio Display (presenter view)

When installing 2008 the installer removed my old PowerPoint (10.1.9) version.

Hi there.

Have you tried deleting the powerpoint.plist? You would find it in your user folder:library:preferences:com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist.

I would quit the app, delete this pref and launch PowerPoint and try again.

Also, does presenter view freeze up when you are on a single monitor?
Before you end in presenter view, have you clicked in any of the panes, like the thumbnail or notes pane? Or have you clicked any other button in Presenter View before the end button?

Have you tried deleting the powerpoint.plist?

I hadn't, but did it each time between the following tests.

Does presenter view freeze up when you are on a single monitor?

I wasn't aware presenter view even worked on single monitor. PP 2007 on our PC won't even open in presenter view without a second monitor. Is this not the case with PP 2008 on the Mac?

Before you end in presenter view, have you clicked in any of the panes, like the thumbnail or notes pane? Have you clicked any other button in Presenter View before the end button?

I just tried it various ways including, opening in presenter and immediately closing, opening and clicking various buttons and finally switching which monitor was the main one in the Display Arrange preference. They all freeze the machine forcing a hard reboot.

On PowerPoint for the mac, you can use presenter view on a single monitor (we call it Practice mode). Let me know if that still freezes on you.

Also, when you are in dual monitors, do you have the monitors set up to mirrored or unmirrored?

Hi, I have a few more scenarios to try with you...I can't repro on my end so I'd just like to see what would happen. If you could try these all with just a blank new presentation, that'd be great.

- presenter view in single monitor mode
- presenter view in dual mode, mirrored
- slide show view in dual mode, mirrored

Sorry for the hassle! Hopefully, we can figure this out.
