I heard On the news this evening that Netscape is about to take it's
last breath.

I have depended on it to read my newsgroups and do my list serv.

I need suggestions as to the best newsgroups readers to use on my
IMAc G4 running on the latest update of OSX Tiger.

I currently also use Safari 3 and the latest version of Firefox.

TIA,

Don Whitely

This question comes up quite often here.

I will chip in by suggesting the lovely Hogwasher:

<http://www.asar.com/index.html>

It is not free but it is very well worth the money imho.

It has a unique design, once you work it out you may find that like me it
makes newsreading quite a pleasure.

I have a web-page about Hogwasher here:

Netscape is/was the outgrowth of the Mozilla project.

Netscape as a product name was sold to AOL and became one of their
branded offerings as both a browser and a service.

One needs to explain whether you are talking about Netscape the
service or the browser/mail/news package.

Netscape as a unified browser/mail/news package continued as Mozilla
and is also under development under the SeaMonkey name, and is also
downloadable at the Mozilla web site.

FireFox is th eweb browser only element of Mozilla.

Thunderbird is the mail and news only element of Mozilla.

I'm not sure how much of this is ported to the Mac, but most of it is.

You no longer see the "Netscape" name due to the sale of it to AOL.

AOL just released a Universal Navigator.app v 9.0.0.5 on 5 Dec 07 and it
seems to work okay. Very AOL like

I use both Firefox and Thunderbird on my Macs. Firefox for all my
web browsing (I like the extensions), and Thunderbird is my work
email reader (I use Apple's Mail for my personal email).

SeaMonkey is also available for the Mac.

However for New Groups, I use MT-Newswatcher. Like many others, I
like the filtering. Now if only these spammers would have the
curtsy to put [SPAM] in their title, it would make filtering so
much easier Smile

Switch to SeaMonkey <http://www.seamonkey-project.org/>. If you like
Netscape you'll feel right at home Smile

I didn't think anyone actually used Netscape anymore. I suppose there
was at least one Netscape user out there. :-p

I use Thunderbird for email and newsgroups. Works well for me.
