Post subject: NeoOffice and Audio Hijack Pro
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>apps (more info?)

I have just installed the latest version of Audio Hijack Pro, 2.8.0,
which no longer users APE to perform instant hijack. I am using OS
10.4.11.

I have found that the Instant Hijack components conflicts with NeoOffice
(all recent patches), as NeoOffice crashes on startup when the component
is installed.

This seems quite definite, as I always get crashes with the component
installed, and do not get them when it is uninstalled. This holds even
on a newly created account.

It seems that setting NeoOffice as an excluded application for instant
hijack fails to solve the issue.

I don't know anything about the new hijacking application, except that
the main item seems to be hermesctrl in /usr/local/hermes.

I have reported the problem to RogueAmoeba, who have not had time to
reply yet.

Of course, there might be a third item which is interacting with the
other two and causing the problem.

This post is partly to see if others have the problem I have, partly as
a clue to people who may have problems, and partly asking if anyone can
suggest other testing I should do or can think of a way to have both
NeoOffice and AHP with Instant Hijack working properly.

So, in view of your response and the other one, perhaps, althoughthe new
version is "recommended for all users", there is a problem with 10.4.11
but not 10.5.1. Unless some third item is interfering.

I also found to my cost (but this could be user error, not clearing
stuff out or the like) that the new version would nothijack an app that
was not running.

I am in contact with RogueAmoeba about the problem. It might be useful
for you to contact them as well. More crash reports and logs might help
them find the problem.

I don't seem to have had any troubles with 2.8d3, so I am not sure what
is going on.

But with the new version, I just had either to quit AHP or to uninstall
the Instant Hijack component to get NeoOffice working.

I wonder why. I think I had some trouble way back at one point. And I
did have a problem with the newest version itself, which has been solved
in the latest development build. But almost all the time AHP has worked
fine, including the Instant Hijack.

Yes, for me it's definitely the latest (and earlier) versions. And
definitely the problem is something to do with AHP's Instant Hijack, as
- even on a brand-new account - NeoOffice crashes when Instant Hijack is
installed and AHP is running and is fine when it is uninstalled.

Oh, he's had all sorts of problems with things that work for the rest of
us and all sorts of experiences that differ from most everyone else's.

It looks as though excluding NeoOffice from hijacking (Options button of
the Instant Hijack Install section) and restarting - not just logging
out - solves the problem.

I'veonly done a quick check, not a long-term test, but it did seem to
open OK.
