I've become quite a fan of Spaces and currently am using 13 of the 16
availaable. A feature I would like is to give each of my spaces a name in
addition to a number. Such space names could easily be included in the
dropdown menulet. As things now I keep a diagram by my side listing my spaces
and what applications will open in each one. I'm curious as to whether others
feel similarly. I've sent a feature request to Apple.

Excellent idea, I wold love to include this feature, and am quite
surprised apple did not include it them selves with the OS, since it
seems quite trivial and very helpful.
I second your motion !

Surely having to keep a diagram is a sign you've taken Spaces too far?
Seriously - what advantage is there segregating apps so finely?

I'll readily admit that my preferences for managing a multiplicity of
currently open applications may not be the same as for other Mac users. That
aside, I do indeed appreciate that Spaces allows me to avoid desktop clutter
and having one application "smother" the windows of another that is also
open. I am using the Control-Arrow method of navigating Spaces more and more.
But I would still like the option of giving each Space its own name.

I think I'd rather Apple just fixed hiding so certain apps don't become
immune to hiding after being open a while or won't return properly from
being hid (usually a case of everything but the menubar returning and
being unable to use the KB with it).
If I could reliably hide all other apps I'd never need anything like
Spaces. For now I use Spaces when I want to focus all my attention on
just one app.

I have no recollection of ever having a hidden application not displaying the
menubar upon unhiding.

Actually, my use of Spaces is primarily to "hide" other than the current
application, especially when I have a multiplicity of applications
concurrently open.

*laughs* I wish I had one of these Macs magically immune from these

To be clearer - hiding has been buggy since 10.3 at least which is when
I seriously started using OSX. It has happened on four different Macs -
everything from a souped up Rev c G3 iMac to a mid-2007 24" 2.8GHz iMac.
Quite how others fail to discover this bug is beyond my imagining.

My chief annoyance with Spaces is that when launching an application
targeted for other than the current Space and that application pops a
dialog box (e.g. keychain request), the dialog box is presented in the
exited Space.
Such dialogs do not show in the Spaces overview (which I've mapped to
the MM scroll ball button) requiring me to recall which Space had been
active at the time of the launch, switch back, respond to the dialog,
and then switch back to the new application's Space.

You can set a key to display _all_ the spaces at once.
Another problem is that some apps insist on opening in Space #1
exclusively; Toast is one. I'm used to it now, though.

Strange, for me it opens in space 7, which is where I told it to.

Just now I changed Spaces preferences so that clicking on the center button
of my mouse, a Kensington Slimbade Presenter, reveals a miniature of each of
the sixteen spaces and then I can click on the one I want to make active.
Previsously I had to use Function-F8 to do the same thing and it was just
awkward. My initial reaction to this change has been most favorable and it
looks like I will no longer have to reference the diagram. Admittedly I can
switch amongst active applications using the Command-Tab method or clicking
on an application in the dock, but for reasons I can't explain I like the
visualness of seeing the miniature of the screen for the space containing an
active application.

Read my post. I've mapped that to the scroll ball button. My complaint
stands.
