Is there any HC-like app which would allow me to connect from a stack to
the Web. I don't know the language but what I'm talking about is a
external hyperlink. Does that exit?

Hello Henry,

HyperCard allows you to open pages in a web browser, if that's
what you mean.

open url "http://www.domain.com"

It is also possible to download a html file using AppleScript or
an external. What exactly is it that you want?

What I want to know is this: if I am in HC, or any of the other HC-like
apps, can I open an external www site? IOW, while I'm in HC, can I
establish an hyperlink to the Web?

Henry,

You are repeating your question without actually explaining what
you want. Could you please provide more information? What do you
want to do with the html page? Do you want to display it in the
browser? Download it your hard disk? Display it in a field?
Something else?

Why are you saying "HC-like"? Which software do you use? Is the
example I gave (open url...) not what you are looking for? If
not, I'd like to help, but I need more info.

Mark

Hi Mark;

Sorry about that my questions are unclear. It's been some time since I
dabbled with HyperCard. Maybe if I went back to the tutorial, that comes
with HC, my question would be answered.

So O.K. I'll try again: Let's say that I'm building a stack of cards
about snakes. There are two procedures that I want to do. First, I would
like link a button or picture to another card that features a legend of
the snake in the garden, that's easy to do since I'm working within the
stack, within HC. The other thing that I would want to do is to link the
card to a webpage, that the explains the evolution of snakes. Since HC
was before, or at least an alternative to the WWW, it seems that two
formats are incompatible, I couldn't simply make a button on the card,
which, when clicked, would open the evolution website. IOW, card--->
card, sound possible, card--->website, seems to be not. If I am wrong,
please tell me how I do it.

By the way, when I refer to HC-like apps, I mean the swarm of things
things that appeared after HC, such as SuperCard, MetaCard, Runtime
Revolution, etc... I haven't used any of them but they all seem to use
the card metaphor. The presentation that I'm working on, consists of
discrete chunks of information, and it would be more striking if it was
in a card format rather than a HTML pages.

Am I making myself clearer? TIA.

Henry

Henry,

Does the following syntax:

open url "http://www.domain.com"

do what you want, yes or no?
