After updating QuickTime on an external hard drive w/Leopard on my
MacBook 2 GHz Core Duo w/1 GB RAM, Setup Assistant comes up after the
login accounts screen. I've logged everything even though it shouldn't
need it but after I complete the Setup Assistant it goes back to the
login screen and the process recurs.

Has anyone else observed this strange behavior?

I've considered removing Setup Assistant from
System/Library/CoreServices and see what happens. Does anyone know what
may happen as a result?

A similar problem has occurred to some people after other software
updates. I haven't encountered it myself. It is caused by corrupted
caches, or something similar.

You can fix it by doing a "safe boot" by holding down the Shift key at
startup. When you get as far as the login window, choose the restart
option and restart normally. That should fix it.

Bad idea. You'll probably get nowhere, as the system will still want to
launch Setup Assistant but won't be able to find it.

I have the same problem here.

I´m really pissed off with apple....

Perhaps that restarting in safe mode solves the issue,

You can take a look on this link for further details

hope you have luck with that!

Enter this command in a terminal window:

file /private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone

Copy the result and paste it in a reply to this post.
