I have recently been running into problems with the Finder on my main
(non-admin) account.

I click in a Finder window, and the focus does not move to it. I then
click on the desktop, and the focus is now on the window.

Or I click on an item in a window, and it is not selected. I then click
somewhere else, and the item previously clicked on gets selected.

It doesn't seem to occur on any other account, so it's unlikely to be an
issue with my wireless trackball, which was my first thought.

And it doesn't happen all the time. For instance, I just tried changing
the Finder view, and then changing back, and it is currently behaving.
It is *only* a problem in the Finder, I have not noticed it elsewhere.

Any suggestions for diagnosis and cure will be welcome.

Got any Unsanity software installed? Have a look in your System
Preferences to see if Application Enhancer is installed.

I have been having lots of similar Finder issues. In my case, items
saved to the Desktop often don't show up until Finder is relaunched.
Sometimes icons get stuck in one spot and can't be moved.

You can try deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. You
should also get acquainted with control-option-clicking Finder's Dock
icon and selecting Relaunch. It always fixes it for me, until the
problem shows up again.

PITA, I know. Finder has never been one of OS X's strengths. Hopefully
Apple will get the bugs worked out soon.

Thanks. But no, not with the new Audio Hijack Pro (the old one used
Application Enhancer). And I got rid of the Logitech Control Center in
favour of USB Overdrive.

So no Unsanity software at all.

Thanks. That sounds a good thing to try.

I've only had the problem recently, so probably something installed is
faulty, though it could be a corrupted plist.
