Post subject: Extreme newbie questions about X-Plane 8.0 on the Imac G5
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>games>flight-sim (more info?)

I have recently installed X-Plane 8.0 for a friend on her iMac Gr with
Mac OS10.something. The installation appears to be without error.
I've
nstalled and run X-Plane 8.0 on a windows PC befor, but have no
experience
with iMacs.

I now have two questions about getting started.

First, how does one create a shortcut to a runfile on an iMac?

Second, when running X-Plane under the Mac/OS 10, how do you
access the X-Plane menus? ISTR that under windows PC there was
a menu bar for X-Plane somewhere on the screen, or one would come
up when pressing <ESC> or something. Nothing like that seems to
be available on the iMac installation.

OH, and also, how does one exit X-Plane under Mac.OS 10, other than
by doing a hard reboot which is the only way I have found so far?

As they say on the net, thanks in advance.

The standard way is to drag the X-Plane icon to the dock (the thing that
pops up on the side or bottom of the desktop when you move the mouse to
the edge), and drop it in the dock. You can then launch X-Plane by
clicking on its icon in the dock.

The menu bar is normallly hidden, but shows up when you move the mouse
to the top of the screen.

It's in the File menu.

Doesn't Command-Q work in X-Plane?

Cool, that works.

OK, the problem was that the Desktop tool bar was in 'always on mode'
so X-plane tool bar popped up underneath it where it was not visible.
The desktop toolbar can be disappeared by clicking on te X-plane
window, and reappeared by clicking on the desktop background outside
of the X-Plane window.

As the mohel said, "thanks for the tips!"

Beats me. I'm not a Macinperson. There aren't any keys on this
keyboard
labeled 'Command' or 'cmd" or anything like that so I wouldn't know
how to enter 'Command-Q' even if I knew it was appropriate.

No. Even though X-Plane is developed on a Powerbook, the user interface
is entirely custom.

Thanks.

One wonders why they don't call it "Apple-Q".

Sometimes it has a a cloverleaf design on it instead of an apple. But the
reason it is usually and formally called the Command key is because that's
what Apple called it.
