I can't find the disk that has Equation Editor. It's not on the install disk, and apparently I didn't install it years ago when I installed Office. I ended up in the same situation, but recuperated Equation Editor when
I found it in the Office 2004 demo which came preinstalled on a new
Mac I bought. I wasn't interested in Office 2004 at the time and
removed the demo but retained copy of Eq Editor, which is probably
illegal. So if you have a copy of Office 2004, the equation editor
therein works for Vx too.

As far as I am aware the programme is not availabel for public
download (free or otherwise).

I can't remember which disk the EE is actually on in v.X, but you may be
interested in the fuller-featured version - MathType - form the same outfit
that supplies it. It isn't free, but there is a free trial:

Hi,

Equation Editor can be found on the install disk. To access it, you'll have
to run the installer and tick the checkbox next to "Equation Editor" when
you get to choose which components you want to install.

If you let MathType expire, you wind up with MathType Lite, which is
free and still more fuller-featured than EE--you get to keep the special
fonts MT installed and I think it's got better cross-platform support.

I suspect EE in Office X might be buried in the Value Pack on the CD,
but not sure.

to the3rdParty--very interesting! that the Office X EE works in Office
2004--though, of course, I'm sure it's against the license.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Equation Editor is not on the Install disk on my copy of version X. It's not one of the options, and help for version X suggests is on some sort of "extras" disk, the name of which I can't remember right now.

I looked at MathType, but I didn't realize there was a separate Mac version! Poorly designed web site. This will be a last resort, as I'd rather not pay $100 extra so I can do this editing gig. I don't recall whether Equation Editor shipped with v.X.

In any case, I don't use it with v.X - instead I use a product by the
developers of Equation Editor (Decision Science) called MathType which
has FAR more features.

You can download the trial version of MathType for Mac:

http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype%5Fmac/

At the end of the 30 day trial, if you don't choose to pay for MathType,
the software will downgrade itself to MathType Lite, which is still more
capable than Equation Editor.

I am not sure if this is helpful to anybody but I found Equation Editor in Applications/Office2008/Office/equationeditor.app.
I have not used it though.

Bea - at the moment, very happy with WORD--

Hi Bea:

Yep, that's the one! And if it is there, then Insert>Object>Microsoft
Equation will start it inside your Word document, ready to type an equation.

Or double-clicking an equation will start it, with the equation in edit
mode.

The original poster couldn't find it because for some reason it had not been
installed.

Cheers
