I was wondering if my G4 would be compatible with the Dell UltraSharp
2005FPW 20.1-inch monitor? It's pretty cheap and in my opinion has
great contrast.

IT-

Does the Dell use the common VGA connector? If so, it will probably work.

Do you have an iBook or PowerBook you could take to the store? If it
works on a laptop, it will probably work on a desktop machine.

If you try it and it doesn't auto-detect, you may have to specify the
correct resolution and scan rate in the Displays System Preference.

According to Dell's web site, this monitor supports several different
inputs:
VGA
DVI-D
S-Video
Composite video

Your G4 should support one of:
VGA
DVI-I
ADC

For VGA or DVD-I output, just attach the monitor using an appropriate
cable. The web site doesn't say what it comes with, but it probably
includes a VGA cable. Might include a DVI cable as well.

If your computer had ADC output, and you want to use it, you can connect
that to the DVI input, but you'll need an ADC-DVI adapter. Apple sells
these. They shouldn't cost a lot.

I would recommend using either DVI or ADC output, because they carry
digital signals and will (probably) give a better picture than the
analog VGA signal.
