I have 2 Macs here - a laptop and a desktop. On both I have Date & Time
open in the System Preferences. Both have the checkbox checked for "Set
date & time automatically." I have reselected the time server on each
one several times - Apple Americas, Apple Europe, etc.

One of them says it's 10:21 am, and the other one says it's 10:16 am.

What's up with that?

Take a look at -

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303731

You'll probably want to do this to the laptop, and maybe the desktop if
is turned on and off frequently.

Also, unchecking and then rechecking the above mentioned checkbox should
resync the time. And, you should use the time server closest to you. My
guess, from what you said above, is just changing the time server alone
does not force an update to occur.

To see what's going on with setting the time, open the Console utility,
be sure its looking at console.log (click on the Logs icon in the upper
left corner, then be sure console.log is selected) then enter ntp in the
filter window (upper right corner).

I've found it simplest to uncheck "Set date and time automatically"
and start ntpd from the command line, then killing and restarting it
every 12 hours.

You can see how far off your clock is by going here:

http://time5.nrc.ca/JavaClock/timeDisplayWE.shtml

At the top left corner will be a box saying "your computer's clock
has an offset of ... seconds".

Cheers, N.
