Using iWork'09 Pages.
For a document, I want auto page numbers to be of the form:
Page number / Total number of pages. (So page 31 gets "31/80" in an
eighty page document.)
In LaTeX, this is possible with the lastpage package. I was wondering
if Pages can do something similar.
The reason is that this document is being sent out for paper based
review, and I do not want some reviewers to accidentally lose some
pages, and not know it (the document structure is such that an
incomplete document might not be noticeable). >> Stay informed about: Composite auto page numbers in Pages'09 ? |

Yes, very easily. At least in Pages 08 it is.
Use the 'Insert' menu, and add Page Number and Page Count as required,
along with any other text.
You can add them into a footer or header, turn these on in the Page
Layout tab in the Inspection dialogue. You might need to get the
settings right if you need left/right headings and title pages etc.
In the 'Window' menu, turn on Show Layout to see the header/footer
sections.

Thanks !
That worked. I edited the auto page number and appended "/" and then
used insert page count. I was pleasantly surprised to see that /80 was
inserted on each subsequent page.
In retrospect, it was not so surprising since footers / headers are
repeated entities. >> Stay informed about: Composite auto page numbers in Pages'09 ? |

There is one hitch though. I tried this on another document. The last
page, which consists purely of references generated by Endnote, does
not get numbered at all. >> Stay informed about: Composite auto page numbers in Pages'09 ? |

That could be set as a separate 'section'. In the Inspection panel you
should find a box to tick that makes that section follow on from the
previous one. If not, just entering the page number text into the footer
on that page should work.
