Does anyone know how to put addresses from the Address Book directly
into the Bcc: slot in the Apple Mail Program's composition window?
Simply getting the Bcc: slot requires making a choice in the View menu;
that choice does not seem to be in the Preferences. Clicking the
Address Book icon at the top of the composition windwo brings up an
Address Book Window, but the only choices are To: and Cc:. I have to
put the addresses into one of those, then cut and paste them into Bcc:,
if I want to get addresses from the Address Book.

I'm running Mail 2.1 under OS X 10.4.11. I don't think there were any
differences (with respect to this particular situation) in earlier
versions of Mail or OS X,

There are two ways:

1. Just start typing the first letters of a name. You'll see a list of
email addresses from the addressbook as a pop-up menu.

2. Use drag-and-drop to drag an address from the addressbook list into
the BCC field.

Pulling up the address book from the icon does offer me the choice of Bcc
directly from the address book. This in 10.4.xx and now in 10.5.1.

Recently I set up a friend to use Mail (she had been using her ISP's godawful
web site for mail), and the address book did *not* offer the Bcc option
(10.4.10). I could not recall how I had gotten mine to offer the Bcc option.

I'm sorry I can't be more help, but at least I can assure you that what you
want to do is possible. I can only suggest that you poke around in
preferences and menus and try to find it.

Bcc: is turned on. When I open a new composition window, the Bcc: slot
shows up. But when I click the Address Book icon I only get To: and Cc:.

I'll try the drag and drop option.

Works, but only for one name (or a few that start with those letters).
I want to be able to insert an entire list at one time.

Drag and drop works; thanks for the suggestion. But I'm still curious
about what one poster said: that he was somehow able to get a Bcc:
button on the Address Book popup window in Mail, but he doesn't remember
how he did it.

Well, there is good old brute force. When I'm sending something to a
wad of people, I put their addresses in Cc: and drag them down to Bcc:

Unfortunately, that's just the way it is.

It's actually a little simpler than that. Click on the address book in
Mail to display it. Select the people you want to email in the Bcc:
line, either predefined group or individuals. Then _drag_ them directly
to the Bcc: line. No need to go through the Cc: line.

But it's not. I'm telling you that my Address Book offers To:, Cc:, and
Bcc:. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me figure out how I got it
configured that way.

Well, I'd love to know too. Did you perhaps use some utility to produce
the Bcc: button and forgot about it? Something like Safari Enhancer, but
for Mail.app? I'm unaware of such a utility. I checked the plists for
Mail and Address Book and couldn't find a setting for this, though that
doesn't mean one couldn't add a setting if you knew what to add.

Mine too. Like John, I don't remember doing anything specific, beyond
setting Mail to BccSelf and ShowBccHeader to "true" in
com.apple.mail.plist.

Hmmm. I already am showing the Bcc: line, but not the BccSelf; so I set
that. Still no Bcc: button in the Address Book window within Mail. Very
curious because this is a button worth having.

That's a good question. The only tool I can think of that might have done it
is Tinker Tool; I just checked and that's not one of the things it does.

I've never configured my Mail to use the Bcc option or even tried the
built-in address panel from Mail.

I enabled the Bcc field from a new message and then clicked on the
address icon. I see the Bcc: button on the address panel.

I disabled the Bcc field and the address panel still gives me the
option. It adds the Bcc field only for that message.

BTW, I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 and it was archive installed over 10.4.x.
